Touring and Spider-Heroes and Shiny Books
Hello lovelies!
Happy almost October! Are you registered to vote? Are you sure? Do you maybe want to double-check and/or register before the many registration deadlines that are coming up in the next week or so, ooooo?:
Check your registration and register super easily at Vote.org!
I think you all know that I am a big fan of voting and participating in our democracy (it’s how we choose our own destiny! Sunny would LOVE voting!!). And I know that there are Wings of Fire readers out there who have grown up with the books and can vote in this election for the first time, which is AWESOME. I love that for you! (And for all of us, and for the future!) Meeting Wings of Fire readers always gives me so much hope, because people like you who care about other people, the freedom to read, protecting the planet, empathy, being yourself, loving who you love, and dragons are exactly the ones who should be running the world (and choosing who runs the world), in my opinion. 😊
So I hope you’ll all register, check your registration, and vote in November!
In other news, I have realized that next Tuesday, October 1, I will actually have TWO new books to be excited about — so it’s extra delightful that I’m about to head out on book tour to see people and get excited in person!
The first book is a limited edition of Wings of Fire Book One: The Dragonet Prophecy — it’s still book one, but with a wildly beautiful new cover by Joy Ang plus a Q&A with me and a bonus deleted chapter at the end. I wrote this scene (of the dragonets hatching) when I first started the book and then cut it from the final version (for reasons which I explain in my author note!). Hopefully it’ll be interesting, especially to any writers out there; I’m always curious to find out what an author cut or changed as they were writing!
The other book coming out on Tuesday is a new middle-grade anthology of 10 Spider-Verse stories, and I got to write one of them! Eeeeee, I know, what?! I love Spider-Man, especially the Into the Spider-Verse movies and Miles Morales, so I was THRILLED to get to write a story about Ghost-Spider (also known as Gwen Stacy or Spider-Gwen). I read all the comics I could find about her and her alternate universe (it’s research, kids! no one talk to Mom, I have to read comics right now!), and I tried to write a story that’s as funny as she is. I’m very honored to be included alongside these nine amazing authors, and I hope you guys love it, too!
Here’s a link to order/pre-order the book
Also, if you want signed/personalized copies of the Wings of Fire limited edition (or maybe any of my books?), I think you can call one of the wonderful bookstores on my tour, I can sign/personalize while I’m there, and then they’ll send it to you (just make sure to call them before I get there!).
Those bookstores are:
The Country Bookshop in North Carolina
Barnes & Noble Union Square in New York City
Brick & Mortar Books in Seattle, Washington
Boulder Bookstore in Colorado
and Blue Willow Bookshop in Houston, Texas
I will also be at New York Comic-Con on October 17 & 18, where I believe I’ll be signing books for Mysterious Galaxy
Yay for all these lovely bookstores! Did I mention how excited I am? I also get to be in conversation with some amazing people, including:
Dhonielle Clayton, author of incredible books like The Marvellers, Tiny Pretty Things, and my personal favorite, The Belles
Ben Clanton, author of the hilarious Narwhal and Jelly books
and Leslie Vedder, author of The Bone Spindle trilogy (which I am reading and loving right now!) and the upcoming The Labyrinth of Souls
I am so grateful to anyone who’s willing to be my conversation partner at events like this, and I hope you’ll come out and join us!
Also thank you to everyone who entered the giveaway! The winners have now been notified, but I loved all the book recs and I wish I had literally a thousand tiny dragons to send to all of you. Hopefully I can sort myself out to do another one soon! 😊
OK, I have to go pack (how many books should I bring to read for the first five-day leg of the tour? The answer is nine, right?), but I hope to see some of you while I’m out and about, and stay tuned for a fun (I hope? I think you’ll find it fun?) announcement very soon!
