Odds and Ends and a Boston Event!
Hello everyone!
First, and most importantly, for anyone in the Boston area, I’ll be doing an event at the Watertown Free Library this coming Saturday, October 24, at 2pm! This is almost certainly my last event for 2015 (I need to seriously hibernate to focus on writing!), which means it’s your last chance to hear a sneak peek of Book Eight: Escaping Peril before it comes out in January. Plus also I’d love to see you there! 🙂
The trip to Michigan and Wisconsin was amazing — thank you so much to everyone who came out to the Livonia Barnes & Noble and to the wonderful Sheboygan Children’s Book Festival!
One of the lovely authors I got to hang out with was Andrea Skyberg, author/illustrator of picture books like Shimmerling and Squircle, who also interviewed me a couple weeks ago for the Tuesday Tours feature of her blog. So if you’ve ever wondered what my biggest distractions are (hint: they’re asleep right now, which is how this blog is getting written) or if you’re curious about what my writing space looks like, you can read the whole interview (with pictures!) here.
I also got to meet Christian Robinson, who is awesome and crazy-talented (our current favorites of his are Leo, a Ghost Story, written by Mac Barnett, and Gaston, written by Kelly DiPucchio). Do you have three minutes for some cuteness? Check out this video he made, What is Music?:

The plane trips also meant I had time to catch up on some reading for my new favorite radio show/podcast — it’s a book club for grown-up books, so tell your parents to listen! 🙂 It’s called Book Talk, airing every other Wednesday on WNHH in New Haven, but you can catch it online anytime — here’s its Facebook page with links to the podcasts and notes about what to read for each episode. Book Talk is hosted by one of my favorite people of all time, Cyd Oppenheimer, who has excellent taste in books, so I’m willing to read whatever she tells me to! She interviews the author and then discusses the book with a couple of readers, and it’s thoroughly wonderful.
All right, I’d better get back to work — hopefully more soon! Halloween is coming! Certain people in this house are TOO EXCITED!! 🙂

With my bigger bear: We just finished James and the Giant Peach and are starting The BFG (by Roald Dahl, obviously) — such weird, wonderful books!
With my littler bear: Noodle and Lou by Liz Garton Scanlon and the above-mentioned Christian Robinson books 🙂
