Return of the Blog :)

Hello favorite readers!

I know, I know — where have I BEEN?  Why have I FORSAKEN you?  Did Peril EAT me?  How is it SEPTEMBER ALREADY?  (Answers:  In my office or the pool!  I swear I haven’t!  Basically yes!  and I KNOW!)

Let’s see, what have I actually been doing for the last three months . . .

June:  I was posting weekly on the Wings of Fire forums and FINISHING BOOK EIGHT, which actually happened, and I am so so so excited about it — especially since HAVE YOU SEEN THE GORGEOUS COVER?

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!  So Perilous and shiny and cool!  (Wait until you see the back, too, it’s spooky and awesome!)

July:  I was traveling with my family, writing Winglets 2: Assassin (yay!), and zipping into New York to record this ridiculously fun live video chat with Gavin at Scholastic, featuring a million amazing questions from Wings of Fire fans!  The whole time we were recording, we could see the chat rolling by, and it didn’t occur to me that people watching the video later wouldn’t be able to see the chat, too — so if I occasionally do something odd, like clap in the middle of an answer for no reason, it’s because I’m responding to something I saw there!  🙂

I also spent all of July and most of August being a full-time mommy, which was very unproductive on the writing (and especially blogging, obviously) side, but also completely awesome, because my kids are hilarious, wonderful people and I love them LIKE CRAZYCAKES.  More than books and libraries and ice cream!  (There was also a lot of books and libraries and ice cream.)  The five-year-old learned to swim (so determined! it was amazing! I can’t even! I never had perseverance like this, not when it involved exercise!) and the three-year-old memorized most of the lines in his big brother’s theater camp show so he could perform the entire thing by himself.  (With costumes! and flair! he’s such a star!)

OK, one example of their cuteness and then I’ll hush up about my munchkins, I promise.

Big brother:  [Spends 15 minutes explaining an elaborate game of rules that nobody understands.]
Mommy:  What?
Big brother:  Never mind.  Elliot, just run around the house and I’ll tell you if you win or lose.
[And little brother immediately obliges, because: hilarious.]

Ha ha ha!  So this is where my brain has been all summer.  In snacks-sunscreen-summer reading land!  🙂  But now school has started again, and I’m not yet completely panicking about book nine, so I’m going to try to do a whole bunch of blogs in a row . . . fingers crossed!  After all, I have to tell you all about the Decatur Book Festival, and the upcoming Sheboygan Children’s Book Festival, and everything else that ate my summer.  Plus maybe drop some hints about Book Eight, because did I mention I’m SUPER EXCITED about it???  🙂  🙂  🙂

Happy September, happy back to school, and happy fall, everyone!
