You Are All the Shiniest and the Best
Oh my goodness, I love you all so much! This contest was so much fun on my end, because I really love hearing about great books I haven’t read yet — now I can’t wait to get to the library and check them all out!
But it was also torture, because you guys are all SO awesome that I wish I could make you ALL winners and send books to EVERYONE! My publishers might be a little alarmed if I did that, though. 😉 So instead I let myself do one crazy thing, which is that instead of five winners, I’m having ten. TEN WINNERS!
If you’re curious about how I picked them, by the way, I literally wrote all the names down on pieces of paper and then pulled them out of a hat. Well, OK, it was a box. A hat would have been more poetic, but it’s the end of the winter (it IS the end; I am IGNORING that snowfall we had today) and who knows where all the hats have gotten to by now. 🙂
And then I looked at the first five names and couldn’t bear having only five winners, so I decided to have five Facebook winners and five contact form winners. That makes it sound a little less crazy, right? 🙂
But what the heck, it’s a celebration! Over 2,000 Facebook fans! A month with TWO books coming out!
AND…next week is THE VERONICA MARS MOVIE EEEEEEEE FINALLY HOORAY which is extra extra extra particularly cool because my sister was one of the extras in it, so I’ll get to see her up on screen with some of my favorite characters of all time (yay! freaking out!)! (Not only that, but she was interviewed and photographed for the New York Times article about the movie! Isn’t that amazing?)
So, anyway, I’m all happy, and I’d love to pass that along to you, the people who make me that way. 🙂 Without further ado, the winners are!:
from Facebook: Keara (who won my only giveaway copy of Wings of Fire 5!), Abby, Shana, Kristina, and Lauren!
from the contact form: Ben S., Griffin N., Tessa, Yusuf K., and Clara H.!
Yay! Congratulations, everyone! Watch your mailboxes!
All the recommendations look amazing, and there’s too many to list here, but in case you’re curious (and like new book suggestions, the way I do!), here’s are the ones from the winners:
The Wolves of the Beyond series, by Kathryn Lasky (recommended by a few people, actually, along with Guardians of Ga’hoole!)
Ophelia and the Marvelous Boy, by Karen Foxlee
The Giver, by Lois Lowry (so great!)
Silverwing, by Kenneth Oppel
Fablehaven, by Brandon Mull (our fearless and talented Spirit Animals leader!)
The Earthsea books by Ursula K. LeGuin (agreed, I love these!)
The Lighthouse Family, by Cynthia Rylant
The Ocean at the End of the Lane, by Neil Gaiman (ooo, yes, I can’t wait to read this!)
I Funny, by James Patterson
I Represent Sean Rosen, by Jeff Baron
The Chronicles of Narnia, by C.S. Lewis
The Tales from the Sinister City series, by F.E. Higgins
the Maze Runner series, by James Dashner
the Grimm Legacy, by Polly Shulman
the Shark Wars series, by E.J. Altbacker
the Swordbird series by Nancy Yi Fan
Dragon Slippers, by Jessica Day George
Don’t those all sound wonderful? And I’ve actually hardly read any of them, so they’ll keep me busy for a while! 🙂 (Oh, and I know, that’s more than ten; a few people suggested more than one book, which is of course OK by me!)
And I have a book recommendation for you all, too! I’ve actually mentioned this one before, but I’m bringing it up again because it just finally came out this week, so now YOU can read it too! (And you should; oh my goodness, I loved it!)
It’s called The Winner’s Curse, by Marie Rutkoski, and it’s in the vein of Megan Whalen Turner’s amazing Attolia books — a fantasy world (but no magic) with complicated politics and a great, really complicated romance. Also the prettiest cover! 🙂
I’m excited that you all can read it now! And then next week you can read Menagerie 2: Dragon on Trial! And then you can go see the Veronica Mars movie! (Yes, you have to!) And THEN you can read Wings of Fire Book 5: The Brightest Night, YAY, so it’s essentially the best month ever for fans of dragons and/or teen detectives, right? 🙂
Thank you all so much again for entering! There were so many entries; I wish you all could have won — but I adore you and appreciate you!
In my next blog: hopefully some info on how to order signed books by me, and more details about Wings of Fire books 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10! (Well, OK, expect very few details about book 10, la la la!) But first I have to go work on revising Spirit Animals 5 . . . a giant octopus awaits me . . . 🙂
Quote of the Day:
Sherlock: This is going to be incredibly dangerous. One false move and we’ll have betrayed the security of the United Kingdom and be imprisoned for high treason. Magnussen is quite simply the most dangerous man we’ve ever encountered and the odds are comprehensively stacked against us.
Watson: But it’s Christmas!
Sherlock: I feel the same! Oh, you mean it’s actually Christmas.
